Swedish Queen Visits Clinic Named After Her - Queen Silvia's Flensburg visit spotlights her lifelong fight for children and dementia care
Queen Silvia of Sweden has arrived in Flensburg for a two-day visit focused on her long-standing charitable work. The trip will highlight her efforts in supporting vulnerable children and improving care for dementia patients. Both causes have been central to her advocacy for decades.
The visit begins with a stop at the Queen Silvia Unit at St. Francis Hospital. This specialised ward provides tailored care for dementia patients who need hospital treatment for other acute conditions. During her time there, the queen will deliver a speech to staff and visitors.
On the second day, she will tour the Childhood House run by Pro Familia, a facility that opened in 2022. The centre offers a safe space for children and young people who have suffered physical or sexual abuse. It receives support from the World Childhood Foundation, an organisation Queen Silvia established in 1999.
The foundation operates in Sweden, Brazil, the USA, and Germany, focusing on protecting children from exploitation and violence. In Germany, it funds similar Childhood Houses in Munich and Würzburg, all dedicated to helping young survivors of abuse.
Queen Silvia's commitment to dementia care also dates back decades. In 1996, she founded the Silviahemmet Foundation to enhance the quality of life for those living with the condition. Her advocacy has made her a prominent voice in raising awareness and improving support systems.
The visit underscores Queen Silvia's ongoing dedication to two key areas: safeguarding children and advancing dementia care. Her tour of these facilities will highlight the practical impact of her charitable work in Flensburg and beyond.
