2025 Food Delivery Trends Reveal a Shift Toward Protein and Convenience
American food delivery habits shifted sharply in 2025, with consumers prioritising both convenience and nutrition. Data from Grubhub, which partners with 375,000 merchants across 4,000 U.S. cities, revealed major changes in what people ordered—from protein-packed meals to quick grab-and-go options.
Protein-rich foods saw some of the biggest increases. Bean orders jumped by 135%, with over 1.5 tons delivered nationwide each month. Tinned fish also surged, tripling in popularity as grocery purchases rose by 209% compared to 2024. Hydration became a focus too, with over 76,000 electrolyte drinks delivered monthly.
Fast food remained a staple, though with new trends. Cold foam coffee orders climbed by 75%, while convenience stores reported higher demand for grab-and-go items like taquitos, chicken rollers, and hot dogs. Chicken nuggets, tenders, and strips stayed dominant, with more than 750 orders placed every hour. Eggs proved versatile across meals. Grocery egg orders rose by 58%, while the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich became the top restaurant egg dish. The data also showed regional variety: 17 different U.S. cities took turns ranking in the top three for fast food sandwiches or chicken orders. The overall trend pointed to a balance between speed and health. Consumers increasingly sought meals offering maximum nutritional value, even when ordering on the go.
Grubhub's 2025 figures highlight a food delivery landscape shaped by practicality and wellness. High-protein items, hydrating drinks, and fast-food favourites all saw significant growth. The platform's reach across thousands of cities ensured these trends appeared nationwide, reflecting broader changes in eating habits.
