Marat Bashimov's 60-year journey shaping Kazakhstan's legal legacy

Marat Sovetovich Bashimov marks his 60th birthday on June 12. He has spent decades shaping Kazakhstan’s legal landscape through his work in constitutional law, human rights, and public service. Bashimov began his academic journey at Moscow State University, where he earned a degree in history and later specialised in law. His postgraduate research focused on international relations and human rights.

In 2008, he completed a doctoral dissertation on the ombudsman institution in Kazakhstan and abroad. His career has spanned research, teaching, and senior government roles, contributing to constitutional development and parliamentary reform.

He has served on commissions and advisory bodies under the President and Government of Kazakhstan. Bashimov has also published over 150 academic papers and books on constitutional law, human rights, and the ombudsman institution. Beyond his professional work, he hosts the TV programme By Law, which explores legal issues and promotes public understanding of the law. Bashimov remains dedicated to law, public service, and defending societal interests. A devoted husband and father of four, he continues to balance his professional achievements with strong family values.
