78 Million Women Fear Job Loss After Miscarriage; Study Reveals Silent Trauma Of Pregnancy Loss In Indian Workplaces

Pregnancy Loss Silences Millions of Women at Work, Study Finds

A new study has revealed the widespread impact of pregnancy loss on women in the workplace. Nearly three-quarters of those affected reported a drop in confidence and job performance. The findings also show that millions fear career setbacks if they speak openly about their experiences. The research, titled Break the Silence, was carried out by YouGov for Quest Global. It surveyed over 2,000 women and 200 men aged 25 to 39 across India. The results highlighted deep concerns: around 80 million women stay quiet about pregnancy loss, worried about judgement from colleagues and managers.

Nearly 78 million women fear losing their jobs or facing negative career consequences if they disclose a miscarriage. Another 70 million would consider leaving their roles if better support is not provided. Yet, 43 per cent said they would feel more loyal to employers who offer assistance during such difficult times. In response, Quest Global has launched a nationwide campaign to tackle workplace stigma around pregnancy loss. The company has also teamed up with YourDOST to offer free support, including a 24-hour helpline, peer groups, and training materials. Five other organisations have now joined the movement to create more inclusive work environments. The study also found that nearly half of the women surveyed would feel more comfortable speaking up in supportive workplaces.

The campaign aims to provide practical help and encourage open conversations about pregnancy loss. With millions of women affected, the push for better workplace policies could reshape how employers support staff during personal crises. Free resources and training are now available to businesses looking to improve their approach.
