University of Nicosia champions movement with Exercise is Medicine week
The University of Nicosia hosted its Exercise is Medicine On Campus week from 4 to 9 May 2026. The event formed part of a global initiative to promote physical activity as a key element of public health. Informational displays and activities were arranged across the campus to encourage movement and share official exercise guidelines. The week-long programme was coordinated by a team of academics and students. Professors Christoforos Giannaki, Penelope Stavrinos, Andreas Mavrommatis, and Konstantina Constantinou led the effort alongside students from the university’s Sport Science programme. Together with the UNIC Run Club, they organised physical activities for participants.
Informative presentations were held to highlight the benefits of exercise in preventing and managing chronic diseases. Posters around the campus featured messages promoting physical activity, along with the World Health Organization’s exercise recommendations. These efforts aligned with the goals of Exercise is Medicine® Cyprus, which seeks to improve public health through scientific education and professional collaboration. The University of Nicosia is an official partner of Exercise is Medicine® Cyprus. The initiative aims to reinforce ongoing work to make physical activity a standard part of healthcare. The week’s events provided students and staff with practical knowledge and opportunities to engage in movement.
