"Eat right" - Course offer brings healthy eating closer to young people

How a School Program Made Healthy Eating Fun for Kids Under 14

A nutrition education program at Carmen-Sylva School has successfully taught children how diet impacts their well-being. The initiative, titled 'Eat Right—Your Game Changer', was launched in 2022 by social worker Anne Lönning. It aimed to help young people under 14 explore their eating habits in an engaging way. The course began with a theoretical phase to introduce key concepts. This was followed by four weeks of hands-on activities, where students tested healthy recipes in their daily lives. Parents received digital updates throughout this practical stage to stay informed.

The program concluded with two in-person sessions. One focused on the influence of social media personalities on eating habits. Nina Kieß and Paulina Sauerborn from the Institute for Nutrition Communication designed the youth-friendly content.

Students responded with enthusiasm, showing high motivation and particularly enjoying the cooking sessions. Their feedback highlighted the program’s success in making healthy food appealing and fun. Every participant received a certificate for completing the course. The program demonstrated that good nutrition supports a healthy lifestyle and can protect against disease. It also proved that children can embrace balanced eating when given practical, enjoyable experiences.
