Kazakhstan celebrates record blood donations on World Blood Donor Day 2025
Kazakhstan marked World Blood Donor Day on 14 June with a large event in Astana. The celebration highlighted the country’s growing donor movement, which saw over 201,000 participants and 250,000 donations in 2025. Organisers stressed the vital role of blood donation in saving lives during emergencies and treatments. The event took place at the square near the M. Utemisov Palace of Schoolchildren. It was arranged by the Scientific and Production Center for Transfusiology, with backing from the Ministry of Health, the akimat of Astana’s Saryarka district, and sponsors. Aigerim Sagambayeva, head of donor recruitment, noted that the centre now welcomes between 120 and 150 donors each day.
Five individuals received the title of 'Honored Donor' for contributing over 40 donations of blood or its components. Among them was Nurlan Zhusupov, who has donated regularly since 2012. He spoke about the life-saving difference donations make for patients battling blood cancers. Health officials also reminded donors to prioritise their own well-being before giving blood. The organisers believe the expanding donor movement and youth involvement will ensure a steady supply of blood for patients nationwide. Blood donations remain critical for surgeries, childbirth, cancer care, and severe anaemia. The day’s activities reinforced the importance of regular contributions to meet medical demands.
