Russia Proposes Tiered Rewards to Boost Blood Donor Participation

World Blood Donor Day takes place on June 14, as set by the World Health Organization. Regular blood donation plays a key role in supporting healthcare systems. A recent proposal aims to boost incentives for donors in Russia. Sergei Mironov, head of the A Just Russia – For Truth party, has put forward a plan to increase rewards for blood donors. He suggested raising the annual payment for holders of the 'Honored Blood Donor of Russia' title, which currently stands at 19,497 rubles. The proposal also includes introducing a three-tiered system for the title itself.

Under his plan, the first tier would require 40 donations, the second 80, and the third 120. Each tier would offer an expanded set of benefits to encourage more contributions. Mironov argued that current support for donors in most regions lags behind what Moscow provides. The proposed changes aim to recognise and reward frequent donors more effectively. Higher payments and tiered benefits could encourage greater participation. This may help strengthen blood supplies across the country.
