Girl, 12, regains 80% vision after flash-bang grenade explosion in Vladivostok
A 12-year-old girl in Vladivostok suffered severe eye injuries after a flash-bang grenade exploded near her. The incident was caused by another teenager mishandling the device. She was immediately rushed to Primorsky Krai Clinical Hospital No. 2 for emergency treatment. Upon arrival, doctors diagnosed her with an eye contusion, corneal damage, and retinal swelling. Maxillofacial surgeons and ophthalmic trauma specialists worked quickly to remove multiple foreign objects from her face and eye.
After the procedure, she was transferred to the paediatric eye department for further care. Over nearly two weeks, medical staff managed to restore her vision from just 10% to 80%. The girl has since been discharged from the hospital. She will now receive follow-up care from an ophthalmologist in her hometown.
The explosion resulted from the reckless handling of a fragmentation flash-bang grenade. The girl’s vision has significantly improved, though she will require ongoing medical supervision. Authorities have not yet commented on further action regarding the incident.
