'STOP Stroke!' Campaign Teaches Life-Saving Skills Ahead of World Stroke Day

A public awareness campaign called 'STOP Stroke!' took place at the School of the Third Age on October 23. The event aimed to educate attendees about stroke prevention, recognition, and care. It forms part of a week-long series of activities leading up to World Stroke Day on October 29 in Yakutia. Tatiana Nikolaeva, the chief neurologist for Yakutia’s Ministry of Health, led the sessions. She delivered lectures on essential topics, including 'Stroke: What You Need to Know' and 'The Mysteries of Memory'. Attendees learned about the nature of stroke, its risk factors, and the different types of the condition.

The campaign highlighted the importance of spotting early symptoms and acting quickly. Experts stressed that proper care within the first 'golden hour' can save lives and reduce long-term damage. They also shared practical advice on first aid for stroke victims.

Prevention was a major focus of the event. Speakers urged the audience to adopt healthy habits, such as regular exercise, balanced diets, and avoiding smoking and alcohol. They also recommended routine medical check-ups and managing risk factors to lower the chances of stroke. Stroke remains one of the most dangerous and widespread cerebrovascular diseases, often resulting in disability or death. The campaign provided clear guidance on how early recognition, lifestyle changes, and regular health checks can reduce its impact. The week of events continues in Yakutia until World Stroke Day.
