Mumbai's civic hospitals get 'Patient First' push under BMC's new directives

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Ashwini Bhide has directed civic hospitals in Mumbai to prioritise a 'Patient First' approach. During a review visit, she assessed healthcare services and infrastructure projects at two major municipal hospitals. Bhide visited Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (Shatabdi) Hospital in Kandivali and Harilal Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali. At Kandivali, construction of a 325-bed super-speciality hospital has reached 48 per cent completion. She instructed authorities to finish the project on time and maintain existing services without disruption.

The new 490-bed Harilal Bhagwati Hospital building in Borivali is nearing operational status. It will offer advanced medical infrastructure and a range of super-speciality services. These include cardiology, nephrology, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, dermatology, burns care, and emergency services.

Bhide emphasised the need for quality healthcare, better patient facilities, and improved maintenance. She also stressed stronger security, uninterrupted medical services, and greater transparency in hospital processes. During the visit, she reviewed monsoon preparedness and directed officials to implement civic services promptly. The new hospitals will expand access to specialised medical care in Mumbai. Bhide’s directives aim to ensure efficient, citizen-centric healthcare delivery. The projects are expected to enhance the city’s medical infrastructure significantly.
