Experts unite at Braunschweig conference to combat domestic violence and mental health crisis

The 13th interdisciplinary conference on 'Domestic Violence' took place in Braunschweig on Thursday. Professionals from various fields gathered to discuss the link between domestic abuse and mental health. Around 180 attendees participated in the event. The conference was jointly organised by the Braunschweig Public Prosecutor General’s Office and the Braunschweig Police Directorate. It provided a space for experts to exchange ideas and develop better support for victims of domestic violence.

Discussions covered current trends, support services, and practical solutions. A key focus was on victims who experience psychological trauma or mental illness as a result of abuse. The event also examined how to manage offenders whose actions are driven by mental health issues.

Public Prosecutor General Detlev Rust stressed the importance of customised support for victims with mental health challenges. Police President Thomas Ring highlighted the need for stronger cooperation between different professions and institutions to tackle domestic violence effectively. The conference produced valuable insights to improve support systems for those affected by domestic violence. Collaboration between sectors was reinforced as essential for addressing the issue.
