LA County jails now offer rapid addiction treatment within 72 hours

Los Angeles County jails now provide medication-assisted treatment for inmates within 72 hours of a request or assessment. The programme is voluntary and requires patient consent along with a clinical evaluation. Correctional Health Services has confirmed there are currently no waiting lists for this treatment. Correctional Health Services (CHS) runs the programme under LA Health Services. It offers medication-assisted treatment to inmates who seek help for substance use disorders. Participation depends on the individual’s agreement and a medical review.

Once approved, treatment starts within three days. CHS allocates $30 million each year to fund these services across the county’s jails. The investment ensures timely access for those who qualify. The programme operates without delays for eligible patients. With no current backlog, inmates receive support promptly after their request. The annual funding of $30 million sustains the service for those in need.
