Astana's Active Longevity Center expands to serve seniors citywide

The Active Longevity Center in Astana has expanded to cover all six districts of the city. Established in 2021, it was created through the efforts of public activists, veterans, and Maslikhat deputies. Its branches now provide easier access to services for older adults across the capital. The centre first opened in 2021 after a campaign led by community members and veterans. Support from Maslikhat deputies helped turn the idea into reality. Since then, its presence has grown to include locations in every district, with a combined area of over 6,000 square metres.

The centre offers a wide range of activities for seniors. These include rehabilitative gymnastics, Nordic walking, yoga, dance, and wellness exercises. IT literacy classes, such as smartphone and government service training, are also in high demand.

Between 2022 and 2026, nearly 20,000 residents have used its services, with daily visits exceeding 3,000. In the Yesil district alone, over 5,000 people have participated, while around 4,000 have in Saryarka. Additional programs include interest-based clubs like 'Silver Volunteers', intellectual games, and choral arts.

Altynshash Tabuldina, a Maslikhat deputy, recently met with pensioners in Saryarka to discuss the centre’s role and social support for seniors. The centre’s work has led to measurable benefits for its users. It improves physical health, reduces anxiety, and combats loneliness among older adults. It also eases pressure on healthcare services and promotes independence for seniors. These outcomes highlight its growing importance in Astana.
