Strawberry imports surge 17% in early 2026 ahead of Women's Day demand

Strawberry imports into the region have risen sharply in early 2026. From January to May, 687 tons arrived through Ussuriysk Customs automobile checkpoints, marking a 17% increase from the previous year. The surge was particularly notable around International Women's Day on March 8. The peak of strawberry deliveries occurred in March, rather than the usual summer season. Most shipments passed through the Poltavka road checkpoint, the busiest entry point this year. All consignments were accompanied by phytosanitary certificates to ensure compliance with health standards.

Due to their perishable nature, strawberries receive expedited customs clearance. They are transported year-round in refrigerated containers to preserve freshness. Health experts advise adding strawberries to daily diets in June, pairing them with greens, radishes, and new potatoes to address vitamin deficiencies after winter. The region imported 687 tons of strawberries by May 2026, with a clear spike tied to March celebrations.
