Clinical psychologist Elena Kondratyeva recently delivered a talk on career burnout for the Znanie Society. The session was part of Russia’s nationwide Youth Day festival, held under the theme 'Dream. Pride. Unity.' It also supported the Youth and Children national project launched by President Vladimir Putin. Kondratyeva spoke at the House of Knowledge platform, with an online broadcast reaching participants across the Far Eastern Federal District. The event, titled 'How Not to Burn Out at the Start of Your Career,' addressed pressing issues faced by young professionals.
She revealed that 75% of young employees show burnout symptoms within their first four months. Additionally, 84% of Generation Z report signs of burnout. Key risk factors include unrealistic professional expectations and poor work-life boundaries.
During her talk, Kondratyeva debunked the myth of multitasking. She explained that the human brain cannot handle multiple complex tasks at once. Instead, she advised tackling demanding tasks one by one and reserving multitasking for routine or fast-paced settings.
She also outlined three types of personal resources: physical, psychological, and moral. Among her recommendations was creating a personal 'list of joys' with at least 50 items. She encouraged engaging in at least one activity from the list daily. The talk provided practical advice for young professionals facing early-career challenges. It also reinforced the broader goals of Russia’s Youth and Children national project. Participants left with actionable strategies to prevent burnout and maintain well-being.
