Medkart's Bold Move to Guarantee Generic Medicine Safety in India

Medkart Pharmacy has launched a new transparency initiative called the Medkart Assured Quality Program. The move aims to address growing concerns among patients about the safety and effectiveness of generic medicines in India. In 2025, the country saw a sharp rise in substandard drug samples, with 1,879 declared Not of Standard Quality—more than double the previous year’s figure. The Medkart Assured program introduces rigorous checks before a product earns its tag. Independent audits and two rounds of third-party testing are required. Only after passing these steps does a medicine receive the Medkart Assured label.

Medkart also plans to release a detailed report on its testing processes. This will include the volume of tests conducted, rejection rates, therapy areas covered, and the protocols followed. The company will disclose what it tests, what it rejects, and how it assesses medicines.

To help patients, Medkart’s pharmacists are trained to explain quality differences and answer questions. An in-app comparison tool is also available for informed decision-making. The company states that affordability and safety should never conflict, and it backs this claim by sharing its testing work openly.

A 2025 study highlighted patient doubts about generic medicines, especially in oncology and cardiovascular care. Substandard samples in India have included antibiotics, cardiovascular drugs, anti-diabetics, and injectables. Medkart positions this initiative as a new standard for the industry rather than a criticism of any single manufacturer. The program seeks to build trust by providing clear, verifiable information about medicine quality. Patients will have access to tools and reports to make safer, more confident choices.
