Russian Woman Convicted for Smuggling Banned Weight-Loss Drugs

A 20-year-old woman from Omsk has been convicted of smuggling potent substances. The Oktyabrsky District Court delivered the verdict after she ordered weight-loss drugs containing sibutramine from Kyrgyzstan. The woman attempted to import the drugs via international mail across the Eurasian Economic Union border. No permits or medical documentation accompanied the shipment. Authorities seized more than 10 grams of sibutramine from illegal circulation.

The court found her guilty of smuggling. She received a three-year prison sentence, suspended for 18 months with a probation period. The suspended sentence means she will not serve time in custody unless she violates probation terms. The case highlights the legal risks of importing controlled substances without proper authorisation.
