Primorsky Krai launches beach patrols after child drownings spark alarm

Authorities in Primorsky Krai have launched preventive patrols along beaches and waterfronts to promote water safety. The initiative follows a series of child drowning incidents, including a recent tragedy in Nakhodka. Officials aim to remind the public, especially young people, about the dangers of swimming in unauthorised areas. The first drowning of the summer occurred on May 10, when a girl lost her life in a technical reservoir in Spassk-Dalny. More recently, a five-year-old child drowned in a pond in Nakhodka after being left without supervision. This incident led to a criminal case under Article 109, Part 1 of the Russian Criminal Code.

In response, Vladivostok has begun patrols at popular waterfront locations, starting with Yubileiny Beach. Police officers and Public Safety Department specialists are monitoring recreational areas, paying extra attention to unsupervised children and teenagers. They are also distributing leaflets with safety guidelines and emergency contact numbers.

Residents across Primorsky Krai are now receiving SMS alerts about each child drowning. The messages urge parents to supervise their children more closely near water. The patrols and alerts are part of broader efforts to reduce water-related accidents. City officials warn that swimming in unauthorised areas can be deadly. The campaign seeks to ensure safer behaviour around water bodies through education and vigilance.
