Abu Dhabi launches 'Safety in the Heat' to combat workplace risks
The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre has introduced a new initiative to tackle heat-related risks. Called 'Safety in the Heat', the programme aims to educate the public about the dangers of extreme temperatures. It focuses on workplace safety and managing heat stress effectively. The campaign highlights five key warning signs of heat stress: heat rash, heat cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Workers are advised to take precautions such as drinking at least one litre of water before starting work. During the day, they should consume at least two litres every two to three hours.
Additional recommendations include carrying a two-litre water container and increasing salt intake in summer. Over the past 11 years, the programme has reached over 9 million people through more than 22,000 educational and inspection visits. It also aligns with the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation’s annual midday work ban, which runs from June 15 to September 15. The programme seeks to reduce heat-related illnesses and injuries in workplaces. By promoting awareness and practical safety measures, it aims to protect workers during the hottest months. The initiative has already made a significant impact through widespread outreach efforts.
