Madhya Pradesh Governor launches blood bank to combat sickle cell disease

Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel recently inaugurated a blood bank at a sickle cell camp in Jhirniya, Khargone. During the event, he highlighted the government’s commitment to eliminating sickle cell disease by 2047, a goal set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the camp, the Governor presented sickle cell certificates to two individuals, Ranjana and Sanjana. He also distributed food baskets to tuberculosis patients Thavali Bai and Billor. Patel praised the Sickle Cell Mitra initiative for its support to patients and confirmed that digital cards had been issued to all those affected by the disease.

He emphasised the progress in tribal areas under schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana and the Dharti Aba Village Development Scheme. The Governor also noted that regular medication over six months could cure tuberculosis. Additionally, he donated two new ambulances and a hearse to the Health Department to improve local healthcare services.

MP Gyaneshwar Patil separately announced a 1500 crore lift irrigation scheme for Jhirniya. The project aims to boost farming and bring prosperity to the region’s agricultural community. The Governor stressed that central and state governments are collaborating to ensure welfare schemes reach the most marginalised groups. His visit underscored ongoing efforts to improve health and infrastructure in tribal and rural areas. The new blood bank and medical donations mark immediate steps in this direction.
