Uttar Pradesh rolls out heat safety rules for schools in 2026
The Uttar Pradesh Government has issued new guidelines to protect students from extreme heat. The Basic Education Department released the 'Teachers' Guideline-2026 for Sensitising Students Towards Heat-related Illnesses' ahead of the new academic session. The measures aim to create a safer, climate-resilient environment in schools across the state. Every school in Uttar Pradesh must now prepare a School Heat Action Plan. The guidelines require students to carry water bottles and drink water every 20 to 30 minutes. Teachers will also educate pupils on heat safety during morning assemblies, lessons, and daily routines.
School timings will follow government directions, with morning assemblies and outdoor activities scheduled before 10 a.m. During Orange or Red Heat Wave Alerts, all strenuous physical and outdoor activities will be suspended. Health Nodal Teachers will be appointed in each school to oversee heat wave preparations and first aid.
The guidelines also outline emergency steps for heat-related illnesses. If a student shows signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, they must be moved to a shaded area immediately. First aid should then be administered without delay. The new guidelines equip teachers with the knowledge to respond to heat waves effectively. Schools must now implement these measures to ensure student safety during rising temperatures. The state government continues to emphasise the importance of a healthy and secure learning environment.
