Arctic Omega-3 study reveals striking health benefits for stressed teens
Researchers in Magadan have completed a study on the effects of Omega-3 fish oil on adolescent health. The project, titled 'Human. Arctic. Adaptation (Children). Omega-Si.', examined how locally produced supplements impact teenagers. It involved students from Gymnasia No. 13 and analysed a wide range of health markers. The study was conducted by the Arctic Research Center of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It tracked over 450 physiological and biochemical indicators, including cardiovascular function, metabolism, and stress responses. Participants, aged 14 to 16, were split into two groups: one took the supplement twice daily for 45 days, while the other did not.
Results showed significant improvements in the group receiving the Omega-3 supplements. Stress levels dropped, concentration improved, and sleep quality enhanced after the 1.5-month course. The Omega-Si plant in Magadan, opened in February 2023, provided the supplements, producing up to 2,000 tons of refined fish oil annually.
Based on the findings, the research team proposed a regional programme called 'Adaptation of Northern Adolescents'. They recommended government funding to support students' resilience during intense academic periods using the local Omega-3 supplements. The study confirms that Magadan-produced Omega-3 fish oil benefits adolescent well-being. It suggests incorporating the supplement into regional health initiatives. The programme aims to help students cope better with academic stress and physical demands.
