North Rhine-Westphalia Greens champion women's rights and renewable energy push

The North Rhine-Westphalia Green Party has launched its state election campaign with a focus on women’s rights and renewable energy. Two central motions address these issues, setting the tone for their policy priorities. At the conference, Yazgülcü Zeybek pushed for stronger legal protections for women. She demanded a ban on voyeuristic recordings and a consent-based approach in sexual criminal law. She also called for femicide to be legally recognised as a distinct aggravating factor in murder cases.

Zeybek additionally urged harsher penalties for deepfakes and greater accountability for platforms sharing sexualised images without consent. The party also aims to ensure all women needing protection can access women’s shelters. Beyond this, they plan to boost women’s economic participation and improve childcare access.

On renewable energy, the Greens proposed increasing financial support for low-income households installing heat pumps. They also want to reduce the electricity tax to make renewable energy more affordable. The conference marks the start of the Greens’ election campaign in North Rhine-Westphalia. Their motions target both social and environmental reforms. The proposals aim to strengthen legal protections and expand access to clean energy.
