Alexandra Knauer Wins 2026 Pittcon Heritage Award Despite Visa Denial

Alexandra Knauer, managing partner of KNAUER Wissenschaftliche Geräte GmbH, has been awarded the 2026 Pittcon Heritage Award. The honour recognises her contributions to instrumental analytics and laboratory sciences. However, she could not attend the ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, due to a denied U.S. visa.

Dr. Markus Fuchs, a long-time employee of the company, accepted the award on her behalf. The ceremony took place on March 8, 2026, as part of the annual Pittcon Conference and Expo.

Under Knauer's leadership, KNAUER has grown from a traditional manufacturer of analytical instruments into a leading life-science technology provider. The company now specialises in areas like FPLC and lipid nanoparticle production, gaining global recognition.

In a video address, Knauer thanked the organisers and dedicated the award to her late father, Dr. Herbert Knauer, who co-founded the company in 1962. She also highlighted recent achievements, including a new 3-in-1 LC detector system and an upcoming modular oligonucleotide synthesizer. David A. Cole, CEO of the Science History Institute, praised Knauer's entrepreneurial vision, scientific innovation, and commitment to social responsibility. As part of the award, she will be inducted into the Pittcon Hall of Fame, joining past recipients who have shaped laboratory science.

The Pittcon Heritage Award celebrates individuals who have made lasting impacts on analytical science. Knauer's work has expanded KNAUER's reach into new technological fields. The company continues to develop advanced solutions for research and industry.
