National Almond Day is highlighting the growing popularity of almonds as a versatile and nutritious snack. The event encourages people to explore new ways of adding them to meals, desserts, and everyday eating. Over the past five years, global almond production has climbed steadily, reflecting their rising demand.
Between 2021 and 2025, worldwide almond production grew from around 3.1 million metric tons to roughly 3.7 million. The United States, particularly California, remained the top producer, accounting for over 80% of the global supply. Spain, Australia, Turkey, and Iran also contributed to the increase, thanks to expanded farming areas and better yields.
Almonds have become the best-selling tree nut in the US, with sales jumping by 12% in the year leading up to May 2025. Their popularity stems from their high protein and fibre content, which helps people feel fuller for longer and reduces unnecessary snacking. Many brands market them as a smart choice for weight management.
Shoppers now find almonds in various forms beyond the baking aisle—single-serve packs, snack bars, and as ingredients in granola or protein bars. They can be easily added to meals with little effort. Brands like Blue Diamond Almonds offer bold flavours, from wasabi and soy sauce to blueberry, spicy dill pickle, and dark chocolate sea salt caramel.
The steady growth in almond production and sales confirms their place as a favoured snack. Their nutritional benefits and convenience continue to drive demand across different food products. With flavours and formats expanding, almonds remain a go-to option for health-conscious consumers.
