Amazon Pharmacy's Same-Day Delivery Expands to 2,000 New Locations by Year's End
Amazon Pharmacy is expanding its same-day prescription delivery service to nearly 2,000 new locations by the end of the year. The move will increase its total delivery points to over 4,500 across the US. Among the areas included are parts of Idaho and Massachusetts, where some local pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens have closed in recent years.
The company already serves all 50 states and Washington, DC, through its online pharmacy service. Its RxPass program, available to Amazon Prime members for $5 a month, offers discounts of up to 80% on generic medications and 40% on brand-name drugs. This subscription-based model aims to make prescriptions more affordable for uninsured customers.
In 2025, Amazon Pharmacy added a caregiver support feature, letting families manage medication subscriptions for relatives. The service also operates prescription pick-up kiosks in certain clinic lobbies, with plans to expand these kiosks further this year.
While some independent pharmacies nationwide have shut down due to economic pressures, no verified public data confirms a direct link between these closures and Amazon's latest expansion. The company first launched its pharmacy service in 2020, but regional statistics on pharmacy closures in Idaho and Massachusetts remain unclear.
The expansion will bring Amazon Pharmacy's same-day delivery to more customers, particularly in areas with fewer local options from CVS or Walgreens. With discounted medication programs and added caregiver tools, the service continues to grow its reach across the country. The company has not released further details on the exact timeline for the new delivery locations.
