Asbury Hospice House breaks ground on $3M expansion for families

A groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of expansions at the Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg this week. The project, funded by a $3 million donation, will create more space for families and improve facilities for end-of-life care. Construction began around three weeks ago, with completion expected by spring 2027.

The expansion will add several new features to the hospice. Plans include a larger family area, dedicated children's play spaces, and a pavilion for special family gatherings. An onsite pharmacy will also be enlarged to better support patient needs.

Martha Dearman, executive director of the Forrest Health Foundation, spoke at the ceremony. She highlighted the importance of providing a peaceful, supportive environment for patients and their loved ones. The project aims to extend compassion, dignity, and space for meaningful moments during difficult times. Funding for the work was secured through community contributions. The $3 million raised ensures the hospice can move forward with its plans without delay.

The expanded Asbury Hospice House will offer improved facilities for families and patients. Construction is now underway, with the final touches set to be finished in early 2027. The upgrades will enhance comfort and support for those receiving end-of-life care.
