Bergisch Gladbach’s A-Team Offers Lifeline for People Living with Obesity
A local self-help group called das A-Team for people living with obesity has been offering support and guidance since 2022. The group was founded by individuals affected by obesity alongside the self-help coordinator at EVK Hospital in Bergisch Gladbach. Meetings take place twice a month, providing a space for shared experiences and practical advice on managing weight and health.
The A-Team was established in 2022 through a partnership between affected individuals and the EVK Hospital’s self-help coordinator. The group works closely with the hospital’s Self-Help Contact Center and Adipositas Verband Deutschland e.V. (Obesity Germany) to offer additional resources.
Sessions are held every second and fourth Monday of the month at EVK Hospital, Ferrenbergstraße 24, in Bergisch Gladbach. Meetings take place on the first floor of the yellow building. Each gathering begins with introductions and ends with members answering three set questions to encourage reflection. The group focuses on helping participants tackle obesity through shared experiences, proper nutrition, and regular physical activity. Members are encouraged to aim for at least two and a half hours of exercise weekly, including activities like aqua fitness, swimming, Nordic walking, or cycling. For those considering weight-loss surgery, the A-Team provides guidance on both pre- and post-operative care. The network also connects members with doctors, nutritionists, and obesity clinics when needed. New attendees are asked to register beforehand by emailing [email protected] or calling 02202/122-3132. The group continues to operate as a safe, motivating space for people navigating the challenges of obesity.
The A-Team remains a key resource for individuals in Bergisch Gladbach seeking support with obesity. Through regular meetings, exercise recommendations, and access to medical expertise, the group helps members improve their health and well-being.
