Doctor Attacks Mother's Caregiver - Fine Imposed - Berlin doctor fined €2,250 for violently assaulting his mother's caregiver in nursing home
A 55-year-old physician has been fined after assaulting his mother's caregiver in a Berlin nursing home. The attack took place in September 2024 at a shared residential facility in Schöneberg. The caregiver suffered injuries, including a cut to the back of his head.
The incident began when the physician struck the caregiver at least three times with the footrest of a toilet chair. The violence led to immediate consequences: the facility banned the doctor from entering the premises.
The Tiergarten District Court later found him guilty of dangerous bodily harm. Despite the severity of the assault, the court ruled it a less serious offence. This decision took into account the physician's clean criminal record and the emotionally charged circumstances surrounding the case.
The victim, an 87-year-old patient involved in the dispute, had been murdered in 2016 by a Somali asylum seeker. As a result, she was no longer alive to receive the care her condition required.
The court ordered the physician to pay a fine of €2,250. The caregiver's injuries and the facility's ban on the doctor remain the most immediate outcomes of the attack. The case highlights the legal consequences of violence in care settings.
