Berlin's New Inclusive Housing Project Welcomes LSBTI Residents of All Ages

A new seven-story residential building in Berlin has opened its doors, offering 70 barrier-free apartments as part of the Lifestyle Diversity II project. Developed by Schwulenberatung Berlin gGmbH, the initiative aims to create an inclusive living space for LSBTI individuals across different ages and backgrounds.

The project faced multiple hurdles from the start. A six-month sales freeze, financing shortages, rising inflation, and construction delays threatened its completion. Despite these setbacks, the final result includes 37 cooperative apartments and 13 social housing units.

The building fosters intergenerational and intercultural connections, housing single gay seniors, older lesbian women, trans and inter individuals, and younger LSBTI people. Residents benefit from on-site services such as home care, therapeutic support, and social counselling. A day centre for LSBTI individuals with mental health challenges has also been established, alongside a care community with eight places and shared communal spaces. Nearby, the *Blaue Insel* cooperative completed a separate residential project at Südkreuz station in 2023, adding 50 new apartments. Since then, no further residential developments have been documented in the immediate area by March 2026. On the ground floor of *Lifestyle Diversity II*, most commercial units have been rented, though one space remains available.

The Lifestyle Diversity II project now stands as a dedicated space for LSBTI communities in Berlin. With its mix of housing, care services, and communal areas, it provides long-term support and social integration. The building's completion marks a significant step in addressing the housing needs of marginalised groups in the city.
