Bhiwandi hospital's power failure leaves ICU patients stranded in deadly heat

A surprise inspection by MP Suresh Mhatre at IGM Hospital in Bhiwandi revealed alarming conditions. Patients, including those in the ICU, were left without electricity during a power outage in extreme heat. The hospital’s backup generator, meant to prevent such crises, failed to function when needed. The visit exposed long-standing issues at the facility. Despite previous reports claiming 60% completion, the ongoing 'Mother and Child Care Hospital' construction now stands at just 50%. The contractor has missed the project’s deadline, fuelling suspicions of mismanagement or irregularities.

Hospital superintendent Madhavi Pandhare’s response to the power failure drew criticism, with questions raised about accountability. MP Balya Mama condemned the administration’s handling of the situation and called for strict action against those responsible.

IGM Hospital has faced repeated scrutiny over poor patient care and alleged negligence. Mhatre now plans to meet Maharashtra’s Chief Minister to address the worsening state of healthcare infrastructure at the institution. The inspection has highlighted critical failures in both emergency preparedness and project oversight. With construction delays and operational lapses, the hospital’s ability to provide safe and reliable care remains under scrutiny. Authorities are expected to review the situation and take corrective measures.
