Biomea's BMF-650 shows promise in Phase I diabetes and obesity trial
Biomea Fusion has shared encouraging results from its Phase I trial of BMF-650, an oral GLP-1 receptor antagonist. The study, completed in 2025, showed the drug was well tolerated at daily doses up to 120 mg. Industry analysts have since highlighted its potential for treating type 2 diabetes and obesity.
The findings were discussed in a private conference call on 30 March 2026, attended by company leaders and JPMorgan analysts. The Phase I trial of BMF-650 revealed rapid absorption, with peak blood levels reached within one to two hours. Its half-life averaged around ten hours, and exposure increased proportionally with dosage. No serious side effects were reported, even at the highest tested dose.
On 30 March 2026, Biomea executives presented these results to JPMorgan clients in a closed session. Leading the discussion were Michael J. Hitchcock (interim CEO and director), Thorsten Kirschberg (EVP of research), and Ramses Erdtmann (co-founder, president, and COO). Access was restricted, with certain participants barred from joining.
Analysts Anupam Rama and Joyce Zhou from JPMorgan Chase & Co. took part in the call. While independent experts at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference 2025 had earlier praised the drug's pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data, the FDA has not yet issued formal feedback. Phase II trials are now underway to further assess its safety and effectiveness. The Phase I data positions BMF-650 as a promising candidate for diabetes and obesity treatment. Biomea continues to advance the drug through clinical testing, with Phase II results still pending. The company's next steps will depend on regulatory reviews and further trial outcomes.
