Braunschweig's New Children's Kitchen Teaches Healthy Eating Through Cooking

A newly renovated teaching kitchen, now equipped with mobile workstations and flexible tables, has opened at Diesterwegstraße Primary School in Braunschweig. The space, known as the 'Plietsche Children's Kitchen', aims to teach children about healthy eating through hands-on cooking. Lord Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum officially unveiled the experimental learning area this week.

The kitchen renovation cost around €120,000, fully funded by the Kroschke Children's Foundation. The updated space now includes mobile workstations and flexible tables to adapt to different activities.

The 'Plietsche Children's Kitchen' program will run twice a year, with two weekly sessions starting in the new school year. Each class begins with a welcome circle, followed by practical cooking lessons and shared meals.

The foundation has secured a five-year funding plan, raising €145,000 from major donors. This financial backing supports not only the current project but also future expansions. By the end of 2026, the initiative will extend to 10 more schools in Braunschweig and the surrounding region.

The new kitchen provides children with a dedicated space to learn about nutrition and cooking. With funding secured and expansion plans in place, the program will reach more schools in the coming years. The initiative focuses on practical skills and healthy eating habits for young learners.
