Eli Lilly's stock soars to $1,126 after obesity drug trial triumphs
Eli Lilly’s stock has hit a fresh record, climbing to $1,126.80 after strong trial results for its experimental obesity drug. The company’s shares rose by 4.05% on Wednesday, breaking past the $1,100 mark for the first time. Investors are reacting to impressive weight-loss data from the Phase 3 TRIUMPH-1 trial of retatrutide. The TRIUMPH-1 study tested retatrutide, a new obesity treatment, over 80 weeks. Patients on the highest dose lost an average of 70.3 pounds, equal to 28.3% of their body weight. Over 45% of those participants shed at least 30% of their weight.
Earlier results had already shown similar success, with higher-BMI patients losing more than 30% of their weight after 104 weeks. The drug also improved key cardiometabolic risk factors, adding to its appeal. Analysts at Wolfe Research called the findings a new benchmark, keeping their Outperform rating on LLY and raising the price target to $1,350. The stock’s surge comes as part of a broader upward trend. Eli Lilly has gained over 400% in the past five years, making it a standout in healthcare. Since its March low, shares have jumped more than 25%. Beyond retatrutide, the company is expanding its pipeline. It recently acquired Engage Biologics for up to $202 million, gaining access to the Tethosome drug-delivery platform.
Eli Lilly’s stock now trades well above the $1,100 level, a threshold traders are watching closely. The success of retatrutide in clinical trials has reinforced confidence in the company’s obesity drug portfolio. With further pipeline growth and strong market performance, the stock remains a focal point for healthcare investors.
