Four men in Vienna were rushed to hospital after suffering carbon monoxide poisoning while smoking shisha. The incident occurred early on Sunday morning in an apartment in the city's Favoriten district.
The group, aged between 30 and 36, began feeling dizzy and developed severe headaches. Around 4:30 a.m., they called emergency services for help.
Upon arrival, responders detected dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide inside the apartment on Quellenplatz. The men were quickly taken to hospital for treatment.
While official records show no recent cases of carbon monoxide poisoning exclusively linked to shisha smoking in Vienna, isolated incidents have been reported in the past. In 2019, eight people were affected during a raid on a shisha lounge, though no annual figures have been published for the last five years.
The men remain under medical care following the poisoning. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the carbon monoxide buildup in the apartment. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
