Free Rollator Safety Workshops Launch for Seniors in Recklinghausen

Seniors in Recklinghausen and Bottrop will soon have the chance to improve their rollator skills through free safety workshops. Organised by local police, the sessions aim to boost confidence and mobility for older residents using walking aids. The first event kicks off on June 11 in Waltrop, with no registration needed. The workshops will offer hands-on training in real-world situations. Participants will practise navigating uneven pavement, curbs, and other common obstacles. Traffic safety specialists will also check each rollator, ensuring it is set to the right height for safe use.

A public transit bus from Vestische Straßenbahnen GmbH will be on site for boarding and alighting practice. Reflective materials will be handed out to make rollators more visible in traffic. The sessions are open to everyone, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own rollators. Police President Friederike Zurhausen highlighted the importance of the initiative. The goal is to help seniors feel safer and more independent while using their mobility aids. Similar workshops will take place across the district in the coming weeks.

The free training sessions will provide practical experience for rollator users. With no sign-up required, seniors can simply attend and take part. Organisers hope the programme will reduce accidents and improve daily mobility for older adults in the region.
