Free Thuringia Events Offer Vital Support for Family Caregivers in 2026
AOK PLUS is hosting two free events in Bad Salzungen to support family caregivers during Thuringia’s Family Caregivers Week. The sessions aim to provide practical advice and legal guidance for those looking after loved ones at home. As of late 2025, over 109,000 people insured with AOK PLUS in Thuringia required care, with the majority receiving support in their own homes. On June 2, 2026, from 4:00–6:00 PM, the Care Café will take place at the AOK PLUS Bad Salzungen branch. This informal gathering offers family caregivers a chance to share experiences, ask questions, and pick up useful tips for daily care. The event highlights the crucial role these caregivers play in enabling home-based care for their relatives.
Two days later, on June 4, 2026, the same location will host 'Planning Ahead—the Right Way' from 4:00–6:00 PM. This session focuses on legal preparation, covering topics like advance directives and powers of attorney. Attendees will also have the opportunity to have a power of attorney notarized on site.
Ilona Wojnowski, a board member of AOK PLUS, has stressed the need to support caregivers’ own health and well-being. With 95,631 people in Thuringia receiving home care through AOK PLUS, the organisation aims to ensure families have access to the right resources and information. Both events are free and open to the public, offering practical help for those managing care responsibilities. The sessions form part of broader efforts to assist the growing number of caregivers in Thuringia. Organisers encourage anyone involved in family care to attend and take advantage of the available support.
