The 6th International Conference of the Bangladesh Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition wrapped up on Saturday in Dhaka. Held at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Centre of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), the event drew over 600 attendees, including doctors, medical students, and foreign specialists. The focus was on tackling gastric, liver, and nutrition-related issues in children through better prevention, treatment, and public awareness. The opening ceremony saw prominent figures in attendance. Professor Dr ASM Bazlul Karim, president of the society, led the proceedings. Guest of honour Prof Dr Md Atiar Rahman, dean of the faculty of paediatrics, joined alongside two pro-vice chancellors of BMU: Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad (administration) and Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader (research and development). Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam, vice-chancellor of BMU, served as the chief guest.

Throughout the conference, experts highlighted gaps in current medical knowledge. Speakers called for expanded research and stronger training programmes in paediatric gastroenterology and nutrition. Discussions covered early diagnosis, improved treatments, and strategies to raise awareness among parents and healthcare providers.

The three-day event brought together professionals from diverse medical fields to address critical child health challenges. Organisers stressed the importance of ongoing collaboration to advance research and education in paediatric digestive and nutritional disorders. The conference concluded with a commitment to implementing key recommendations in clinical practice.
