Guided wild herb walk reveals secrets of local foraging on May 5

A guided wild herb walk will take place on Tuesday, May 5, offering participants a chance to discover the nutritional benefits of local plants. Led by certified nature guide Iris Lau, the event will focus on identifying and understanding wild herbs in the area. The two-hour tour starts at 5:30 PM from the parking lot of Otto Stops’ gravel pit at Waldnieler Straße/Vorster Straße 1. Lau will guide attendees through the surroundings, highlighting herbs like meadow hogweed, St. John’s wort, willowherb, and common daisy.

During the walk, Lau will explain the unique properties of each plant. She will also share advice on the best times to harvest them for optimal flavour and nutritional value. The event is designed for anyone interested in foraging or learning more about wild edibles. No prior experience is required, and participants will have the chance to ask questions throughout the tour.

The walk will wrap up at 7:30 PM, giving attendees a deeper knowledge of local wild plants. Those joining can expect to leave with practical tips on identifying, harvesting, and using these herbs in everyday cooking.
