High-Tech Endoscopy Saves Young Lives at Primorsky Krai's Leading Children's Hospital

Primorsky Krai Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 1 has showcased its advanced endoscopic procedures as part of its 55th-anniversary celebrations. The hospital performs a range of specialised procedures, ensuring both precision and safety. The hospital carries out several key endoscopic examinations. Video bronchoscopy allows doctors to inspect the trachea and bronchi, helping them remove foreign objects and assess airway conditions. Gastroscopy, another common procedure, examines the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum using a flexible endoscope. For more complex cases, video ileocolonoscopy is used to inspect the colon and the final section of the small intestine, aiding in the diagnosis of conditions like Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

Each procedure is performed under general anaesthesia for children and most adults, ensuring patient comfort. High-resolution images are displayed on a screen in real time, giving doctors a clear view of internal structures. They can also record videos or take photos for further analysis. After every use, the instruments undergo a thorough cleaning process. This includes preliminary cleaning followed by dedicated washing and disinfection. Rigorous sterilisation is mandatory before any instrument is reused, maintaining strict hygiene standards.
