How Timofey the Pallas's cat adapts his diet through every season

Timofey, a Pallas's cat, follows a carefully managed routine to stay healthy through the seasons. His weight fluctuates between 3.75 kg in summer and 6.5–7 kg by winter. Keepers adjust his diet and outdoor time to match his natural cycles and prey habits.

At the start of summer, Timofey reaches his lowest weight of 3.75 kg. During this time, he eats once a day, with meals of 250–300 grams. He enjoys spending entire days outside, lounging in a favourite spot and watching people pass by.

Outdoor trips are limited to twice daily—early morning and late evening—to avoid overheating. His diet mirrors that of wild Pallas's cats, which hunt pikas, rodents, and small mammals in warmer months. But as winter approaches, his feeding schedule changes.

By late August or early September, his portions grow to 350–400 grams, served two to three times a day. His appetite peaks in October and November, preparing him for colder months. In the wild, these cats shift from small mammals to birds, insects, and carrion when snow covers their usual prey. Timofey's keepers ensure he gains weight steadily, with one fasting day each week to maintain his health.

Through winter, he may go a day or two without eating, just as wild Pallas's cats do. His weight naturally drops by about 2 kg over the season. To manage this, his portions shrink, and feedings become less frequent until spring arrives.

Timofey's routine reflects the natural behaviour of Pallas's cats in Central Asia's steppes and mountains. His diet and outdoor time are adjusted to keep him at a healthy weight year-round. By following these patterns, he stays strong and active through every season.
