Kamchatka's school cafeterias win praise for tastier, healthier meals

School cafeterias in Kamchatka Krai have come under the spotlight after recent inspections highlighted improvements in food quality and variety. United Russia’s monitoring visits revealed that students now enjoy a broader selection of meals, with many praising the taste and options available. Inspectors examined several aspects of the school cafeteria, including food quality, portion sizes, and kitchen cleanliness. They also reviewed the menu choices and overall facilities to ensure standards were met.

The cafeteria now serves three hot meals a day, covering 86% of students. Popular dishes include borscht, pelmeni, cocoa, and chicken cutlets, which have received positive feedback from pupils. Gleb Sernetsky, a fourth-grader, described the food as tasty, while Natalya Mamontova, a parent, noted that her son with dietary restrictions eats well at school. Sofia Pokhodiy, regional coordinator of United Russia’s *New School* project, emphasised the importance of proper nutrition for children’s development and learning. The initiative includes regular monitoring visits to ensure cafeterias maintain high standards across the region.

The inspections confirmed that students now have access to a wider variety of fruits, vegetables, and balanced meals. With ongoing monitoring by United Russia, the school cafeteria continues to adapt its menu to meet dietary needs and improve meal satisfaction among pupils.
