Kuwait tightens health checks for expats under revised 'Wafid' rules

Kuwait has introduced an updated executive bylaw for its 'Wafid' programme, aimed at improving medical testing for expatriates. Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi implemented the new rules on Saturday to strengthen health checks before and after arrival in the country. The revised bylaw consists of 54 articles designed to streamline medical procedures for expats. It establishes clear mechanisms for coordination and digital links between health authorities involved in the testing process.

Under the new regulations, overseas medical centres must meet strict criteria for approval and assessment. Only accredited facilities will be permitted to conduct pre-travel health checks. Upon arrival in Kuwait, expatriates will undergo additional tests at approved local centres to ensure compliance with health standards.

The bylaw also updates requirements for laboratory tests, X-rays, clinic examinations, and preventive vaccinations. Health facilities must now follow higher ethical and professional standards, with greater emphasis on integrity and transparency.

The 'Wafid' programme itself serves as a precautionary measure, verifying the health status of expats before they enter Kuwait. The changes aim to enhance the overall efficiency of medical testing and improve preventive health measures for the expatriate community. The updated bylaw reinforces Kuwait’s commitment to stricter health controls for incoming expatriates. Pre-departure and post-arrival medical checks will now follow a more structured and transparent process. The new rules apply immediately under the oversight of the Ministry of Health.
