Flu and Stomach Bug: Hospitals Impose Visitor Ban - Lusatia hospitals halt visits amid surging flu and stomach virus outbreaks

Two hospitals in Lusatia have temporarily stopped most visits due to rising viral infections. The Lusatia Clinic in Forst and Naemi Wilke Diakonie Hospital in Guben introduced restrictions after outbreaks of influenza and gastrointestinal illnesses. Both facilities are now limiting access to protect patients and staff.

Naemi Wilke Diakonie Hospital in Guben first barred visitors on January 30. The ban has since been extended until February 7. Meanwhile, the Lusatia Clinic in Forst imposed its own restrictions, which will remain in place until February 6.

Despite the bans, patients can still receive personal items delivered to their wards. Visits are only allowed in 'justified exceptional cases' and must be arranged in advance.

Medical experts have advised stronger hand hygiene and reducing contact with sick people. They warn that individuals may stay contagious for days even after symptoms disappear. The outbreaks have put pressure on both hospitals, leading to stricter measures.

No recent data compares this year's infection rates in Brandenburg to previous years. Available reports focus only on avian influenza cases in poultry farms, not human infections.

The restrictions aim to control the spread of illness within the hospitals. Patients can still get essential items, but general visiting remains suspended. The measures will stay in effect until early February unless conditions improve.
