Magadan's legendary epidemiologist celebrates 85 years of life and service

Nattela Tkavadze, a respected epidemiologist in Magadan Region, marks her 85th birthday on May 8. Born in Novorossiysk in 1941, she has dedicated over 50 years to the local healthcare system. Colleagues and officials gathered to honour her long and distinguished career.

Tkavadze graduated from Rostov State Medical University before moving to the Kolyma region half a century ago. Since then, she has worked as an epidemiologist and department head at the Magadan Regional Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology. Her expertise has earned her multiple honours, including Excellence in Healthcare, Veteran of Labor, and Honored Worker of Russia’s State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service.

Dmitry Shapovalov, a member of the Kolyma Regional Parliament, delivered a commemorative address on behalf of the legislative body. The message, signed by Anatoly Shirokov, Chairman of the Magadan Oblast Duma, praised Tkavadze’s contributions to public health and her mentorship of younger doctors. Shapovalov also presented her with a gift from the regional parliament. Colleagues joined the celebrations, with Dmitry Borovikov, chief physician of the regional hygiene centre, among those offering birthday wishes. The tributes highlighted her enduring impact on the region’s medical community and her commitment to improving citizens’ well-being.

Tkavadze’s 85th birthday was marked by recognition from lawmakers and peers alike. Her five decades of service have left a lasting mark on Magadan Oblast’s healthcare. The commemorations underscored her role as both a skilled professional and a mentor to future generations.
