Maharashtra HSC results clash with NEET, sparking student stress concerns

The Maharashtra Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results were announced on Saturday, just days before the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). This tight scheduling has sparked concerns over student stress and mental health. Critics argue that the overlap between the two major exams places unnecessary pressure on young learners. Student groups had earlier called for a delay in the HSC results. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) proceeded with the original schedule despite these requests. The Student Islamic Organisation (SIO), Mumbai, was among those voicing strong objections, describing the timing as unfair to students.

NEET is widely seen as a high-stakes exam that shapes medical careers. With the HSC results released so close to the test, many students now face heightened anxiety. The SIO urged education authorities to adopt a more considerate approach when planning key examinations. Anubha Shrivastav Sahai, president of the India-wide Parents Teachers Association, highlighted a lack of coordination between state and central exam boards. She stressed the need for better planning to ease student burdens in future. The criticism comes as thousands of students now prepare for NEET under added strain.

The HSC results have been published, and NEET remains scheduled for the coming days. Students and parents continue to push for changes in how major exams are timed. Authorities have yet to respond to calls for a more coordinated and student-friendly approach.
