A Juan Soto man has completed a gruelling January challenge to raise funds for mental health. Juan Callister plunged into freezing water every day last month, pushing himself further each time. His efforts have so far brought in over £7,200 for Isle Stand Up to Suicide.
Juan Callister took on the cold-water challenge to support a cause close to his heart. Each day in January, he entered icy waters, adding an extra minute to his dip. Despite harsh winter conditions and widespread illnesses, he stayed healthy throughout the month.
The final swim took place on Saturday in Peel Bay, where a crowd gathered to cheer him on. Around 20 to 30 people—including friends, family, local swimmers, and even Isle of Man Police—joined him in the water for the last challenge. Supporters described the event as both emotional and inspiring.
Juan admitted the challenge took a toll on his body. By the end, he felt exhausted, hungrier than usual, and more irritable. Unlike his past high-adrenaline activities, this test was as much about mental strength as physical endurance. He also stressed that anyone attempting something similar should seek professional medical advice first.
His efforts have already raised over £7,200, surpassing his original goal. Donations remain open via his JustGiving page, with all funds going directly to Isle Stand Up to Suicide. The challenge has also encouraged open discussions about mental health and suicide among those following his journey.
Juan's daily cold-water dips have drawn attention to mental health support on the Isle of Man. The funds raised will help Isle Stand Up to Suicide continue its work. Donations can still be made online for those wishing to contribute.
