Minsk's New Animal Database Could Revolutionize Pet Care in Belarus
A new animal database system may soon launch in Minsk within the next few years. The platform aims to streamline pet records and improve veterinary care across the capital. If successful, authorities plan to roll it out nationwide in Belarus.
The database will store detailed information on each registered animal. This includes vaccination history, veterinary procedures, owner details, and microchipping data. Initially, only veterinarians will access the system, with pet owners gaining entry at a later stage.
The platform will also assist vets during examinations by providing quick access to an animal's medical background. Currently, microchipping remains voluntary in Minsk, with only a few thousand pets fitted with chips. However, the procedure is mandatory for obtaining a veterinary passport for domestic animals.
Officials highlight that microchipping could be the only reliable method to locate lost, runaway, or stolen pets. Owners who agree to participate will have their pet's microchip number logged in the database. If the system proves effective, the initiative will expand across the entire country.
The database aims to centralise pet records and support veterinary services in Minsk. Should the trial succeed, Belarusian authorities will implement the system nationwide. For now, microchipping stays optional, though it remains essential for pet passports and reuniting lost animals with their owners.
