Unusual Incident on Astana–Uralsk Flight Ends with Emergency Birth
An extraordinary event unfolded on March 18 aboard a flight from Astana to Uralsk when a passenger in late-term pregnancy suddenly went into labor after her water broke. The situation required urgent medical attention, as reported by our website.
What Happened
Among the passengers was Uralsk-based surgeon Taubay Baizhanenov, who was the first to respond and provide assistance.
"Yesterday, an unusual situation occurred on the Astana–Uralsk flight. A pregnant woman's water broke mid-flight, and I had to administer emergency medical care. As a doctor, it's crucial to stay calm in such moments and apply all my knowledge and experience correctly. In the end, a baby boy was born. May God grant him health, his first steps, and a path in life. Everything ended well. Incidents like this remind me how vital and responsible my profession is," he wrote.
Baizhanenov was not the only medical professional on board. He was joined by an osteopathic physician named Farida in delivering first aid.
"Labor did not fully progress on the plane—the contractions stopped. The pregnancy was at 27 weeks, the woman had underlying health conditions, and bleeding began, so we made an emergency landing," the doctor explained.
According to Baizhanenov, the aircraft had to divert for an emergency landing. Only afterward did he learn that the passenger had given birth to a boy.
Airline's Statement
We reached out to the airline's press service, which shared further details about the incident.
"FlyArystan Airlines reports an in-flight emergency on flight FS7367 from Astana to Uralsk on March 18, 2026. Thanks to the swift actions of the crew and the assistance of passengers, timely medical support was provided," the airline stated.
The company confirmed that the passenger, 27 weeks pregnant, had experienced complications.
"Two doctors were among the passengers and immediately responded to the crew's call, helping deliver the necessary care. Given the passenger's condition and the doctors' recommendations, the captain decided to return the aircraft to the departure airport," the carrier noted.
Upon landing in Astana, the woman was transferred to medical professionals. She gave birth to a boy, who is now under medical supervision.
In its comments, FlyArystan's press service expressed its deep respect and gratitude to the responsive doctor.
"The airline sincerely thanks you for the professional medical assistance provided aboard the Astana–Uralsk flight. Your prompt actions and sense of responsibility ensured that the passenger received the necessary care in time. This is a testament to your dedication to your profession and to humanity," the statement read.
